I really want to just jump right into the recent stuff, but I should probably give a little recap of the trip thus far being that this is already day six!
02.03: We finally reached Heathrow Airport after 7 1/2 hours in the air, two waters, a bag of pretzels, part of Juno, part of No Country for Old Men, the "pasta" entree, and two hours of sleep. We rented a sweet little Saab station wagon and made it into Bath in about 2 hours or so. I didn't see a bit of snow anywhere! Exciting. In fact, the countryside was quite green for the Second of March. Bath is an incredibly quaint city that sits in a valley, which makes the majority of the town visible from the drive in (upper right). At the time we arrived I was in a state of delirium due to sleep depravation, but realized that the city was very historic and that most buildings are made out of this yellow stone as seen on the left (above). We finally got settled about one mile from the picture on the left, went into town for some essentials, got about 20 more minutes of sleep, and then went downtown into the dark. Not the smartest thing to do in a city centre where the roads appear as though they were constructed by an individual who was not only dizzy, but also blind. It's a maze. And to prove this fact, I wondered around the city in a state of confused exhaustion for roughly two hours trying to get back to my room. Welcome to Europe!
03.03: Not too much happened on Monday. We made it up to the University of Bath, had a chance to meet some professors and administrators for the Pharmacy and Pharmacology Department and was treated to an excellent dinner at a place called Aqua by the Dean. The food was quite good and the Peroni on tap didn't hurt :). First time I'd seen Peroni on tap actually! (http://bath.aqua-restaurant.com)
04.03: More of the same on Tuesday. Another visit up to the campus. Only this time we walked up a mountain to get there. The University overlooks the valley and the hike up to it is about 20 minutes, straight up! I am out of shape. Also had a chance to snap many, many shots this day. See:
